We are seeking compassionate and skilled Animal Ambulance Drivers / EMTs to join our team dedicated to providing emergency medical care and transportation for animals in need. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in emergency response, a deep love for animals, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. This role involves driving an animal ambulance, administering emergency medical care, and ensuring the safe and timely transport of injured or ill animals to veterinary facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Animal Ambulance Operations:
    • Safely operate and maintain the animal ambulance, ensuring it is clean, stocked, and ready for emergency calls.
    • Navigate efficiently to and from emergency locations, following all traffic laws and safety protocols.
  2. Emergency Medical Care:
    • Provide immediate first aid and emergency medical care to animals in distress, including wound care, CPR, and stabilization.
    • Assess the condition of animals on-site and determine the appropriate course of action for transport and treatment.
  3. Animal Handling and Transport:
    • Safely and humanely handle animals of all sizes and temperaments, ensuring their comfort and minimizing stress during transport.
    • Secure animals in the ambulance using appropriate restraints and equipment.
  4. Communication and Coordination:
    • Communicate effectively with pet owners, veterinary staff, and emergency dispatchers to coordinate care and transport.
    • Provide clear and compassionate updates to pet owners regarding their animal’s condition and care.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Accurately document emergency calls, treatments administered, and transport details.
    • Maintain records of ambulance maintenance, inventory, and supplies.
  6. Team Collaboration:
    • Work closely with veterinary teams, animal control officers, and other emergency responders to ensure seamless care for animals.

Qualifications:

  • A diploma in any discipline; additional training in animal care or emergency response is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or equivalent training in animal first aid and CPR is preferred.
  • Experience working with animals in a professional or volunteer capacity is preferred (e.g., veterinary clinic, animal shelter, or rescue organization).
  • Strong knowledge of animal behavior, handling techniques, and basic medical care.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in high-stress situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry animals of varying sizes and weights.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in animal emergency care (e.g., Veterinary Assistant or Technician certification).
  • Experience driving emergency vehicles or operating medical equipment.
  • Familiarity with local animal welfare laws and regulations.

Working Conditions:

  • This role involves working in a variety of environments, including outdoor locations, veterinary clinics, and emergency scenes.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as emergencies can occur at any time.
  • Exposure to animals in distress, potentially hazardous situations, and varying weather conditions.
